I might be misremembering. I have a hard time keeping track of all the stuff that gets thrown around here...

It's not like it's impossible? We are....in space.

Yes. [He says, and then pinches the bridge of his nose with his free hand.] Teach me to go around saying yes to deals without the fine print actually written anywhere.

[alteracion]

We didn't even have the big print anywhere.

[ it was really not well thought out. she looks exhausted and shoves some more fries in her mouth ]

At least when I climbed up on the train, that was better.

For a second I thought you were going to ask me what a train was too. [ in an exhausted tone, but between fry chewing: ] It's a special train. It's enormous, goes on forever, and it doesn't make any stops. It picks up passengers who are special. That's how I got my number. [ she gestures with the arm that has it, though she doesn't bother taking off her glove ] All the cars are like their own little worlds. I guess it's sort of like this place, except people aren't killing each other every week for fun.

Nope! It's 2018 where I'm from. [A MODERN. How unfortunate.] That's pretty cool, though. How many people are on it? How does it choose its passengers? Just - people who stand out above everyone else? Or do you have to have some kinda spiritual aptitude or something?

[alteracion]

Hmm. I don't know. Probably a few hundred? There's no like... passenger registry or anything. Running into other humans just kind of happens.

[ she munches thoughtfully on another fry ]

I don't know for sure. Spiritual aptitude, I think? It's magic. There's no greeting pamphlet for the train.

[touchups]

Mm, makes sense.

[A magic spirit train that goes on forever... Sounds about right to him.]

What do you do there? Just explore things forever?

[Or until death do they part?? He's assuming even magic train humans still have a human lifespan.]

[alteracion]

Mm... Pretty much? [ in the tone of someone who has not really been thinking about an endgame ever. ] It's... sort of like this place, where you can do whatever you want. Your number goes up the better you are at the train. The conductor's got the highest number I've ever seen.

[touchups]

[It's a system he seems to grasp, at least... There's a little nod of understanding!]

Oh! So it's still kinda like a competition then, huh? What's the conductor's number? Does that mean the person with the highest number gets to direct the train?

[alteracion]

It's so high, it goes all the way up to their neck and their other arm. [ said in a very awed tone? ] And I think so? I'm one of the only people who's seen the true conductor. He saved my life when I was young.

[touchups]

Wow... Like pi. [Is. Is that what it's like... He sounds pretty impressed too, though??]

That makes you more special than even the rest of the people on the train, huh? Not bad.

[alteracion]

True! How'd he save you?

[alteracion]

There was this killer robot... He stopped it. He had a modulated voice, and he was so tall... [ she points to the wave on her face ] This is his symbol.

Oh! Wow... He sounds like an interesting guy! What's the symbol supposed to mean?

[He's looking at it curiously!]

[alteracion]

I'm not sure. It was this wave that moved when he talked...? I took it as our own for my group.

[touchups]

[Sounds like a truly funky robot man.]

The Apex. Cool name, right? [ unironically. ] I'm making sure all passengers get the rightful experience they deserve from the train. We take care of each other.

[touchups]

It is, yeah! [Unironically.] That's pretty neat of you guys, though. So you make sure everyone has the most fun, or what?
