[ when law walks into the observing room, grace is already there, looking over the star charts and probably considering whether she should steal them. but she looks up at law and stretches out when she notices him ]
Hey, Doc. [ him being a doctor is like. the only thing she knows. ] Come to check out the place?
[ honestly? that's fine. it's not like he makes himself wildly know like some people. but hmm...... that was some slightly sus behavior that he is going to ignore. ]
Something like that. It's important to be aware of what's changing.
[ he didn't quite mean the murder but at the same time it's not like he didn't mean murder at the same time. still, he will be fine to focus on the other thing he brought up. ]
I'm a pirate; I spend a lot of my time out in the open ocean and one of the key crew members any boat should have is a navigator.
A pirate? [ pirate doctor??? actually no that makes perfect sense because scurvy. ] That's cool. It must be weird not to be around any kind of water, though, right?
[ he'll gesture to how one looks like on his wrist. kind of like a watch with three faces and little needles. you're canon familiar enough zia!!! ]
Understanding how the tide, the moon, and the stars all are important too but to be able to find next island can only be done with a log pose. The needles inside of them will point in the direction of the next island and will need time to reset before being able to move on.
I'm not entirely sure of the finer details of how a log pose works, but it does latch on the magnetic waves special to each island. It's the navigator's job to decide which island to go to. Some islands have a "reset" of a few hours where others might have years.
It's the navigator's job to decide which island to pick.
[ he means this for both parts of what she has said. ]
It's also why a good navigator is so important where I'm from; some pirates have been known to stoop as low as to steal one from another crew. Fortunately I don't have to worry about that much, but I've heard stories.
First mate and your navigator? I bet. [ she looks at the stars again ] People must be so surprised when they see a polar bear on a pirate ship, though.
week 3, monday
Hey, Doc. [ him being a doctor is like. the only thing she knows. ] Come to check out the place?

[ he'll take a look up at the stars. not fake! ]
At least this one comes with an actual view.
no subject
[ she looks at the stars, tilting her chair back a bit casually ]
I don't recognize any of these, though. Do you?
no subject
I don't know too many since I have a navigator, but no, none of them do.
[ to be expected? ]
But it can be claustrophobic inducing. No surprise people will do nearly anything to keep themselves entertained.

[ she's so tired of murder, let's talk about something more interesting, like grace leaning back in her seat to look at law ]
What did you have a navigator for?

Island in my world are unique where you can't immediately navigate away from them safely after reaching it.
[ which seems kind of strange but you know one piece is strange. ]

[ grace is comparing this to a compass, because she does not know one piece bullshit, but she knows how compass works? ]
no subject
Yeah, exactly that.
I'm not entirely sure of the finer details of how a log pose works, but it does latch on the magnetic waves special to each island. It's the navigator's job to decide which island to go to. Some islands have a "reset" of a few hours where others might have years.

[ she seems to genuinely think so, tilting her head in thought ]
Though being stuck in one place for years because they made the wrong choice sounds like a drag.

[ i mean, that's one way to get murdered by your new crew, but also, they'd still be stuck so yknow ]

[ grace is very valid in her thinking of this. thank you grace. ]

[ he won't tell her that bepo is a polar bear.....yet. ]

[ i wish to god furries weren't normal on the train ]

He's a martial artist, too.
no subject
[ she says regular but they're usually wearing clothes and living normal human lives so like ]
no subject
[ look, that's regular for him too because what is even one piece??? ]

His name is Bepo and I'd consider him my first mate, so if you can imagine, he's very important to my crew.

[ sure, law will join her and looking at the stars. none of them make sense to him but it's not a bad view. ]
The further you explore the oceans the weirder things you see. As you might be able to guess.
